About

Hi, my name is Jack Friesch, welcome to my website.

I am a screenwriter and director from San Francisco, California with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communications from the University of Portland. While my main focus is writing, my time spent at Prague Film School offered me the opportunity to become a well-rounded filmmaker.

Over the past two years I’ve produced, written, directed and edited many of my own projects, the best of which are shown above. In addition, I’ve gotten experience in a variety of roles on so many film sets I’ve lost count.

As part of the film crew on a number of projects, I’ve was responsible for various aspects of the production – When I’m not writing, directing and/or editing, I’ve been a Boom Operator, Best Boy, or a PA. I've even tried my hand at acting in a few films.

As you take a look through my website, you’ll see the variety of projects I’ve worked on, from writing, directing and editing my own short scripts to assisting on sets.

When you look at what I’ve accomplished so far, I think it’s clear I’m a motivated, a team player, quick to adapt, and eager to learn. Ultimately, the knowledge and experience I seek will involve my passions: writing, visualizing, and creating with the goal of finding a more permanent job in the entertainment industry.

Education

Prague Film School - Film Making Narrative (Screenwriting / Directing) - Graduated June 2026

I just completed my 2yr program. The experience of living abroad combined with the education I received along with the people I met, made this invaluable. The curriculum was laid out in such a way that I gained not only classroom knowledge, but hands on experience from the very first week. In the first year I took the core classes: Screenwriting, Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Sound, Lighting and Equipment Protocol. However, I was still able to write, direct and edit four of my own short scripts. Additionally, I also gained a lot of practical on set exposure, working as the boom operator/sound recorder, art director and gaffer, even acting, on numerous occasions for my classmates. In the second year I focused exclusively on my graduation film project, a 20 minute film which I wrote, directed and edited. An opportunity to showcase what I've learned and my creativity.

Priority Pictures - Internship (Script coverage) - Summer 2025

I worked as an intern on a team of four, where I mainly focused on script coverage. Essentially, I would read multiple scripts a week (pilots, features, etc.), annotate them, and write coverage about what I read. I would write a synopsis of the script, commentary from an objective point of view and finally; recommend, consider or pass on a script. I also had weekly meetings where we would discuss the scripts we read and our thoughts on them with our boss. Through this internship I was also lucky enough to get to listen in on production meetings, director meetings and pitches, which was amazing and helped give me a sense of the business side of the industry. I was even fortunate enough to pitch my own original TV series (Into The Lion's Den) to one of the company's principles.

Kino Guarimba - Film Residency (Amantea, Italy) - Summer 2025

I applied and was accepted to partake in a film residency program, organized by La Guarimba and Cinema Ambulante, based in Amantea, Calabria in Italy. During this 10-day experience, I met filmmakers from all over the world with varying backgrounds, expertise and skill sets. I was fortunate enough to build strong relationships and connections with multiple of my peers. I co-wrote and co-directed two films as well as acted and participated on a few other sets. All going from conceptualization to completed short with 10 days! A wonderful learning experience, very different from my first year attending Prague Film School. I learned just how fast I can make a film and how to handle stress and pressure with an immediate deadline. I left the residency very proud of the two films I made and with amazing new friends and connections for the future.

City College San Francisco - Digital Video Editing - Intro to Premiere Pro - Summer 2024

A three-month summer course introducing digital video editing for television, video, and multimedia programs using Adobe Premiere Pro on an Apple OS X. This hands-on class focused on the operation, technology, techniques, and aesthetic process of editing video content with related title and visual effects components. Much like my three-month screenwriting course, this short class taught me the fundamentals as well as gave me a much greater respect and understanding for the editing process and what editors do as a whole.

Portland State University - Intro To Screenwriting - Summer 2023

After graduating college, I took this course at Portland Community College. This short (7wks) course taught me the basics of screenwriting. More importantly it peaked my curiosity reinforcing a starting point for my future endeavors.

Course description - Students are introduced to the process of conceiving, structuring, writing, rewriting, and marketing a screenplay for the contemporary American marketplace. "Screenplay paradigms" are discussed, and a variety of movies will be analyzed.

University of Portland - Bachelor of Science Organizational Communications - Graduated 2022

At University of Portland, I earned a degree in Organizational Communication. Other than my core classes, my curriculum was focused on how to interact and engage with people. I was taught a variety of communication theories and techniques as well as how to read people and situations well. I was given numerous opportunities to give speeches and presentations, all of which I wrote. Outside the classroom, I learned to balance my work, school and personal life quite well. I lived both alone and with a group of people where I needed to compromise and manage conflicts. I was able to attend every class and turn in every assignment on time while still excelling in my job outside of school.
